BIENVENIDOS "WELCOME" to Brad Martin's Web Page. Brad
Martin teaches Spanish and German at Elkins High School. He was born at Winchester,
Virginia but has lived in West Virginia nearly all his life.
Mr. Martin never learned Spanish in a traditional school class. He learned speaking Spanish while he was an exchange student living with a family in Caracas, Venezuela when he was sixteen and seventeen years old. He continued learning Spanish the following summer while living with a family in Mexico. Mr. Martin graduated from Elkins High School and attended Marshall University, the University of Madrid in Spain, and West Virginia University. After graduating, he has taught Spanish at Elkins High School. He decided to be a Spanish teacher because he wanted to create an environment where a student could feel free to express himself in Spanish. He was an English teacher also for eight years and has taught German for seven years. Also, Mr. Martin can communicate in French and knows a little Portuguese, Italian, Danish, Hebrew, Japanese, and Russian. Mr. Martin believes "that to study a foreign language opens another world to a person. We live in rather monolingual country and we forget that we live in a very diverse world."
Mr. Martin and his wife, Lisa, have 3 sons--Nigel (11 yrs. old), and a set of twins, Ian and Adam (7 yrs. old). In his free time, he enjoys traveling, playing games and sports with his family and likes to read, listen and play music, walk, eat, and meet new people.
